Getting started
What does SetAside do?
SetAside calculates how much to set aside for taxes from every payment you log as a 1099 contractor. It breaks down your obligation across federal income, self-employment, state, and local taxes — so you always know what you owe before you spend it.
How do I set up my tax profile?
When you first open the app, you'll enter your filing status, state of residence, and any local tax rate. This drives all the calculations. You can update these at any time in Settings.
Is this the same as filing my taxes?
No. SetAside is an estimation and tracking tool, not a tax filing service. It helps you prepare throughout the year so you aren't surprised at tax time. You still need to file your returns (or have a CPA do it). We strongly recommend consulting a qualified tax professional.
Income & clients
How do I log a payment?
Tap + on the dashboard, enter the amount, select (or create) a client, and optionally assign a project. SetAside instantly calculates and displays your tax set-aside.
Can I track income by client?
Yes. Every payment is tied to a client. The Clients view shows total income per client so you can see exactly who's driving your revenue.
Can I edit or delete a payment?
Yes. Tap any payment to edit the amount, date, client, or project. Swipe left to delete. Your dashboard and tax estimates update immediately.
Expenses & mileage
How do expenses affect my taxes?
Business expenses reduce your taxable income, which lowers your set-aside amount. When you log an expense, your dashboard updates in real time to reflect the reduced tax obligation.
How does mileage tracking work?
Log business miles in the Mileage section. SetAside calculates the deduction using the current IRS standard mileage rate and reduces your taxable income accordingly.
Can I attach receipt photos?
Yes. When logging an expense, tap the camera icon to attach a receipt image. Photos are stored securely in encrypted cloud storage tied to your account.
Reports & estimates
What are quarterly estimates?
The IRS requires most self-employed workers to make estimated tax payments four times a year (April 15, June 15, September 15, January 15). SetAside tracks your income by quarter and shows you an estimated amount due for each deadline.
Can I export my data?
Yes. Go to Reports → Export to generate CSV files of your income, expenses, and mileage. These are ready to share with your accountant or import into tax software.
Account & data
Where is my data stored?
Your data is stored in the cloud using Supabase with encryption in transit and at rest, so it syncs across your devices. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Settings → Delete Account. This permanently removes your account and all associated data within 30 days. You can also email us at Support@TapTapPerformance.com to request deletion.
Can I use SetAside on multiple devices?
Yes. Sign in with the same email on any device and your data syncs automatically.
